France wins penalty shooting and gains place number five

In an only in the end exciting match the French team has gained the fifth place at the European Championships at Leipzig with an 7:6 (2:2, 1:1) victory over England

Especially the first half was did not show really attractive hockey and was poor of highlights. Significantly there were no real chances except by some penalty corners – two for the French and one for the English. French goalgetter Frederic Soyez took the second one to make the lead for his team short before halftime. After Antoine Moreaus fantastic shot to make it 2:0 (40.) everything seemed to be decided, as well as the English team went on to fail in the near of the French circle. Only in the last five minutes the events overturned: England equalized through two rebound penalty corners of Rob Moore (66.) and Ben Hawes (70.). Hews even had the chance to made the winner for his team, but he failed with a penalty stoke (70.). As the overtime kept scoreless, a penalty shooting had to bring a decision. Once more French Keeper Julien Thamin demonstrated his extra class and saved the victory for his team.
